CA Delivers First-Day Support for EMC's New CLARiiON
ISLANDIA, N.Y. -- Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that BrightStor ARCserve Backup and BrightStor Enterprise Backup are providing first-day support for EMC Corporation's CLARiiON with ATA, the first integrated storage system with ATA and Fibre Channel disk drives. The CA announcement comes on the same day as EMC's general release of the new ATA drives. The CLARiiON CX series leverages ATA disk technology to offer customers substantially better accessibility and backup/recovery performance than conventional offline tape solutions. The immediate availability of CA's BrightStor solutions as a backup and recovery management and automation platform for the new ATA drives will enable customers to quickly and confidently deploy this innovative, high-value technology. Testing conducted jointly by EMC and CA ensures the interoperability of the BrightStor and CLARiiON products. The testing also confirmed that the combined products deliver superior performance, enhanced reliability and data availability, and a more efficient footprint and power utilization than can be achieved using tape systems with comparable capacity. "The combination of CA's BrightStor backup solutions and EMC CLARiiON with ATA offers our mutual customers the highest levels of data protection and availability at an affordable price," said Chuck Hollis, vice president of storage platforms marketing at EMC. "This innovation comes at a time when customers are looking to bring more information online and extend to it all of the robust functionality of CLARiiON CX networked storage." BrightStor ARCserve Backup and BrightStor Enterprise Backup are designed for the backup and restore of distributed and centralized data center environments, respectively. "EMC's integration of ATA technology into its CLARiiON CX series gives BrightStor customers an exciting alternative for protecting large volumes of critical data that can be readily accessible in the event of system failure," said Nigel Turner, CA's senior vice president of BrightStor solutions. "Our BrightStor solutions make it easy to manage the new CLARiiON devices with all other enterprise storage resources -- thus optimizing media usage and streamlining storage management operations."
