Topspin and Sumitomo Join Forces to Provide Clustering Solution

Topspin Communications, the leader in Switched Computing solutions, today announced that Tokyo-based Sumisho Electronics Co., Ltd. (SSE), a subsidiary of one of Topspin's strategic investors, Sumitomo Corporation, will distribute Topspin's products in Japan. Topspin's products allow customers to build high-performance computing clusters with industry-standard servers. Leveraging the InfiniBand standard, these products interconnect servers into a flexible fabric and then seamlessly provide access from that fabric to Ethernet- or Fibre Channel-attached network and storage resources. SSE is one of Japan's top high technology distributors, with a focus on high-performance engineering, corporate management and network solutions. "Topspin is the market leader in InfiniBand technologies," said Dan Mikogami, operating officer, and assistant general manager of the Business Solution Unit at SSE. "By delivering a single, programmable 10Gbps fabric that can switch all types of networking and storage data, we believe Topspin will enable end users to dramatically reduce TCO, and rapidly deploy and scale resources on demand to match business and application requirements." Under the agreement, SSE will market and distribute Topspin's switched computing products to end customers, distribution channels and strategic OEM partners throughout Japan, including: -- Topspin 360 -- The company's flagship switched computing system and the first solution that allows customers to create virtual computers from pools of industry-standard processor, storage and I/O building blocks -- Topspin 90 -- The industry's only 1U, entry-level, intelligent InfiniBand switch with built-in expansion capabilities for LAN, WAN and SAN connections -- Fibre Channel Gateway -- The Fibre Channel Gateway aggregates and virtualizes Fibre Channel connectivity for server clusters, improving SAN scalability, reducing management pain and increasing data availability -- Ethernet Gateway -- The Ethernet Gateway extends the value of server clusters to the rest of the enterprise by providing seamless connectivity to existing IP networks "Establishing a presence with SSE in Japan represents a significant milestone in Topspin's development, and will help propel us into our next stage of growth," said Patrick Conte, vice president of sales at Topspin Communications. "SSE is the recognized leader in offering high performance computing solutions in Japan and contributes significant expertise in building and marketing next-generation clusters that help dramatically improve business performance."
