Avaya's New 10 Gigabit Ethernet Solution Will Increase Bandwidth Performance
ATLANTA, GA -- Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV), a global leader in corporate communications networking solutions and services, has announced a 10 Gigabit Ethernet solution designed to help enterprises optimize their business by expanding their infrastructure bandwidth. 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) networks are expected to deliver the newest broadband services -- such as all types of streaming media, including high definition video, and audio plus advanced voice applications -- widely and inexpensively to businesses of all types and sizes. "This is the killer application enabler for businesses to optimize collaborative communications that interface with their customers." said Graham Celine, vice president of solutions management for Avaya's MultiService Networking Infrastructure Group. "With this introduction, Avaya further establishes its position as a technology leader in next generation converged voice, video, and data networking technology, offering its customers a migration to higher performance and capability with flexible interface options required for next generation networks." The Avaya 10GbE technology significantly extends and enhances the performance of Avaya networks to support real-time, high speed, mission critical business applications. These include enterprise resource planning, converged voice and video Internet Protocol (IP) communications used in video conferencing and distance learning, and large centralized data storage/backup operations. It can also be deployed across enterprise campuses to remove network bottlenecks and can create extended virtual enterprises by increasing the reach of existing high speed networks. Avaya's 10GbE technology can also be used in existing web centers that interface with customers, where delays due to unpredictable network traffic could significantly reduce service. Avaya's 10GbE technology will significantly enhance the value of Avaya's MultiService Network Infrastructure offer because it provides a non-disruptive migration to higher speeds and performance levels -- and lower total cost of ownership through easy operation and management -- compared with other 10 Gigabit technology currently available today. The initial release will significantly extend the features and benefits for both the Avaya P580 and P882 MultiService switch platforms and provide "best in class" networking solutions for enterprises whose customers require high performance Ethernet-enabled services. The Avaya 10GbE technology is compliant with the draft of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEEE) 802.3ae specification, the 802.1Q Virtual LAN standard and is compatible with the 802.1p priority tagging. It will also support Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, DiffServ marking as well as other leading Avaya Multiservice switch features. Avaya is a participating member of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance (10gea.org) and the Metro Ethernet Forum (metroethernetforum.org). For more information visit www.avaya.com
