White paper competition provides an opportunity for student members of Ethernet Alliance University Program (EAUP) to present academic research to industry professionals: The Ethernet Alliance today announced the EAUP’s 2009 White Paper Challenge. The program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students of universities that are members of the EAUP. The winning university and student representative will each be awarded a cash prize of $3,000 and the opportunity to present their white paper at next year’s Interop Las Vegas, May 17-22, 2009. White papers must be focused on Ethernet technologies and advancement, and must be received or postmarked by February 27, 2009 to be eligible. The 2008 winner, Francisco Blanquicet, is a graduate student at the University of South Florida. Francisco presented his paper on “PAUSE Power Cycle for Energy-Efficient Ethernet” alongside graduate advisor Dr. Ken Christensen at Interop Las Vegas 2008. Blanquicet’s paper received several press accolades, including Network World, EE Times, and TechTarget. “The EAUP White Paper Challenge was a tremendously valuable experience for me,” said Blanquicet. “Very few students have the opportunity to present their research in such a public forum with exposure to top tier companies, along with the possibility of those companies adopting academic research for use in product development. I am extremely grateful to the EAUP for this experience.” “The White Paper Challenge provides a perfect forum for university students to showcase their research investigating new ideas that can be applied in a real-world setting,” said Christensen, professor and director of the Undergraduate Program for the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida. “Francisco was able to network with well-known industry leaders at Interop 2008 which will be invaluable when he completes his graduate degree and enters the job market.” Rules and submission information for the 2009 White Paper Challenge Program are available online at its Web site. If a university is not a member, students interested in submitting their papers are encouraged to speak with their university administration or faculty about joining the EAUP.
