TROY, Mich. -- Altair Engineering Inc., a global leader in engineering, consulting and high performance computing technology, announced today a global relationship with SGI. The agreement allows SGI to market and sell Altair's PBS Pro distributed computing technology with its SGI(R) Origin(R) 3000 systems and SGI(R) Altix(TM) 3000 superclusters. The bundled technology-hardware solution provides clients with an ROI based high-performance computing environment. "SGI and Altair are expanding our relationship by working together to provide versatile workload management capabilities that leverage the power of SGI platforms," said Anneke Dempsey, director of Global Alliances, SGI. "Offering PBS Pro with SGI systems is a great example of how we work together to serve our mutual customers' workflow management needs." PBS Pro technology has been optimized for the IRIX(R) operating system to take advantage of both the scalability of the SGI Origin architecture and control of resources through CPUsets. Additionally, Altair is updating its current PBS Pro port to SGI Altix superclusters and plans to release an optimized port this summer. PBS Pro enables customers in the life sciences, energy, research, logistics, manufacturing and financial industries optimize the utilization of their high performance computing environments by aggregating computation resources into a virtual pool and intelligently scheduling computational workload across this virtual pool.
