SAN FRANCISCO -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced six new software products that will deliver enhanced security in the network computing infrastructure for CIO's, system administrators and developers. These products offer customers a compelling total cost of ownership (TCO) and the necessary IT environment of military-grade security, secure trading, instant messaging and collaboration, and network management. "Network computing is only as strong as its weakest link. If the network is compromised, the customer's entire business can be put at risk," said Jonathan Schwartz, executive vice president of software at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "While our competitors have made security flaws a feature, Sun has consistently made security one of its highest priorities. In fact, we don't just make security products -- we build security into everything we make." For the CIO and system administrator, Sun is announcing: -- Trusted Solaris(TM) Standard Edition (SPARC(R) and x86): A highly secure operating system targeting businesses where enhancing privacy, increasing accountability and reducing security violations are critical business needs, thus bringing dynamic economics for commercial deployment. Pricing starts at $999 (U.S. list price). -- Trusted Solaris Certified Edition (SPARC and x86): In addition to the functionality in the Standard Edition, the Certified Edition is independently evaluated at EAL4, the internationally recognized criteria for evaluating IT Security under the Common Criteria Certification scheme, and provides the highest level of assurance of any commercially available operating system. Pricing starts at $2,495 (U.S. list price). "As a leading provider of information-based systems specializing in mission-critical national security programs, Veridian relies on Sun's Trusted Solaris operating system because it is the only UNIX environment that offers the security levels we require," said Glen Givens, vice president, Trusted Technologies, Veridian. The x86 platform, along with the equally cost-effective Sun Blade and SunRay platforms, offer a vast array of options to our customers." -- N1 Data Platform: This provides storage pooling and consolidation through virtualization allowing customers to flexibly allocate their existing storage resources, as well as new systems, on demand, decreasing the need to purchase unneeded storage capacity and lowering total cost of ownership. A B2B solution built on Internet and Web services standards, the product reduces cost and complexity of traditional Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) solutions using Value Added Networks (VANs) for message transport. For example, customers can save up to $75K in monthly charges by eliminating the need for a VAN. The Sun ONE Integration Server Secure Trading Agent is available now at a price of $2,000 per host connection. The Collaborative Business Platform includes a set of quick-start and deployment professional consulting services from Sun and industry-leading iForce partners. The Project Orion release is planned for mid 2003. The Sun ONE Studio 8, Compiler Collection is scheduled to be available by the end of May 2003 at a U.S. list price of $995.00.
