Conference honors Eleuterio Toro

Over 130 participants from 20 countries gather around the figure of outstanding teaching at the University of Trento in Santiago de Compostela.

Next week, from 4 to July 8 at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Santiago de Compostela International Conference will be held to Honor Professor EF Toro on his 65 birthday.

Under the title, “Numerical Methods for Hyperbolic Equation. Theory and Applications,” the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, is organizing this unique event, which gathers some of the most prominent and important experts in numerical methods for hyperbolic equations of the mathematical community and international engineering international. The Chairman of the Scientific Committee is the Abel Prize (equivalent the Nobel Prize for Mathematics) Peter Lax.

The International Conference is starting next Monday, July 4 at 17:00 hours on Faculty of Mathematics of Santiago de Compostela and will continue until Friday, July 8, sessions in the morning and afternoon. It will be attended by over 130 participants and speakers from 20 countries.

The event will present the inaugural Dean of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Juan Casares Long, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of Trento, Turbine framework, the Vicedecana Faculty of Mathematics of USC, Elena Vázquel Abal, representing Scientific Committee, Prof. James Glimm, the honored, Prof. Eleuterio Toro, and Coordinator of the Congress, Profra. Elena Vazquez Cendón, Faculty of Mathematics USC. Immediately afterwards held the Inaugural Conference in charge of the Aeronautical Engineer Amable Linan, Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research in 1993.

Eleuterio F. Toro ( www.ing.unitn.it / Toro ), Professor of Numerical Analysis University of Trento, in the mathematical community boasts a well-deserved international prestige as a teacher, for his contribution to education and development of numerical methods for partial differential equations. The equations are hyperbolic part of the "DNA of mathematics" in very relevant issues in fluid dynamics Computational (CFD), specifically in Hydraulics and Oceanography, to model the Tsunamis, but also for the flows in the human body, the combustion process, the Astrophysics and are of great application in industry and business through the implementation numerical methods to solve in the computer codes. All these issues and aspects will be treated in Santiago by an impressive panel of scientific experts Mathematics and Engineering.

The interest it arouses the figure of Toro and applications, increasing this discipline, led to the conclusion during the weekend prior to 2 July 4, the "Short Course on Numerical Methods for Hyperbolic Equation ", to 35 graduate students. Himself Professor Toro sessions will teach a short course participants and grantees receive a signed copy of one of his most definitive texts. A book signing, which also been invited to the Media Communication will take place on Thursday, July 7 at 11:00 pm, the Faculty of Mathematics Santiago de Compostela.
