Montreal conference on supercomputing focuses on medical applications and future
Once a year in Canada, supercomputers emerge from the shadows at the High Performance Computing Symposium. In 2011, the event will celebrate its 25th edition at the Cœur des sciences de l'UQÀM in Montreal. It will bring together nearly 50 international speakers and 250 participants, researchers, technical personnel, students and experts from about twenty industries. This year, the conference will focus on medical science: "The main reason we chose this theme is that Montreal is a major hub in the field. For a long time, superconductors have served fundamental sciences and engineering, but - people don't always know - increasingly in the medical sciences, whether to study proteins, simulate treatments or study DNA sequences," points out Normand Mousseau, coordinator of the event and professor at Université de Montréal's Department of Physics.
WHO: 50 international speakers, including keynote speakers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Concordia University, École Polytechnique de Montréal, Environment Canada, IBM, Queen's University, McGill University, the Research Centre at the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec, the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, the University of British Columbia, and Université de Montréal.
