Leibniz-Institut DSMZ Adopts ScaleMP’s vSMP Foundation
ScaleMP announced that Leibniz-Institut Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen GmbH (DSMZ) has adopted vSMP Foundation. vSMP Foundation delivers an effective alternative to proprietary, costly symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) system, aggregating the power of multiple commodity x86 servers into one larger virtual SMP.
“DSMZ did not have dedicated HPC staff or facility, nor did it have any servers,” said Dr. Boyke Bunk, Group Leader - DNA sequencing and Bioinformatics, DSMZ. “ScaleMP’s vSMP Foundation made it possible for our DSMZ scientists to make the leap from laptop computing to an easy-to-use high performance computing (HPC) solution, enabling us to run Ubuntu -- one of the largest Ubuntu deployments worldwide with 192 cores on a single system -- for our application needs.”
