Veridian Announces Release of PBS Pro 5.1

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- Veridian has announced the latest professional edition of the Portable Batch System: PBS Pro 5.1. PBS is the leader in supercomputer workload management as well as de facto standard for batch queuing on Linux clusters. The PBS workload management solution and flexible scheduling capabilities provide increased utilization of valuable computer resources. "We saw utilization rates jump from 20 to 70 percent on the IBM SP after installation of PBS," said David Tweten of the Numerical Aerospace Simulation Facility. Built on over seven years of proven PBS technology, PBS Pro 5.1 provides enhancements in new features, stability, reliability and fault tolerance making it the trusted workload management solution for UNIX platforms: workstations, supercomputers, UNIX PC clusters. Features of PBS Pro 5.1 include: Multiple user interfaces - graphical user interface and command line interface. Management of both batch and interactive work. Pre-emptive job scheduling, in addition to other popular scheduling algorithms. Job-interdependency and chaining. Users can define a wide range of linkages between jobs including the sequence in which the jobs are executed, synchronization of one job to another and job execution depending on the success or failure of a previous job. Dynamic load balancing among systems so any one system is not overburdened with work while others remain idle. Cross-system scheduling. Jobs can be scheduled across multiple systems from one or more systems. Files can be moved automatically (staged) to the execution system and output files staged off the execution system as required. Charge-back accounting logs for determining computer allocations. Provides advanced reservations and meta-computing features to support distributed computing and computational grid technology. The advantage of job tracking capabilities across multiple systems with PBS, as well as a common user interface on all UNIX platforms makes cross platform computing much easier for users. "PBS enabled the establishment of a common queuing environment across heterogeneous high-performance computing systems and architectures," commented Stephen Jones of the Department of Defense (DoD) Army Engineering Research and Development Center Major Shared Resource Center. This same facility recently deployed PBS Pro on the world's largest SGI Origin3000 supercomputer. For further information visit www.veridian.com
