Caldera International Inc. Boosts Marketing Efforts, Adds Execs

SANTA CRUZ, CA – Caldera International Inc. (Nasdaq: CALD), the global leader in "Unifying UNIX with Linux for Business," has named Dr. Timothy Ashby executive vice president of worldwide marketing. In this role, Ashby will strengthen Caldera's global brand, overseeing strategic relations, marketing and corporate communications, public relations, field and demand marketing, and business development. Further, Angela Yearta has been named director of analyst and public relations. She is responsible for developing a brand-imaging strategy, including implementing all public relations and communications programs with journalists and industry analysts. "Our new management team members will strongly impact the ways we market our tailored business platform to customers across the globe." Prior to joining Caldera, Ashby worked for MarchFirst as head of eBusiness for the western region; for Grant Thornton Advanced Technology Solutions as marketing chief; and for Walker Interactive Systems as vice president of global marketing. Ashby has been involved with Latin American business and economic development for over 20 years. He is a co-founder of the Sonrisa Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing charitable transfer of technology to Latin America. Ashby served at the U.S. Commerce Department's International Trade Administration as deputy assistant secretary of commerce for the Western Hemisphere and director of the Office of Mexico and the Caribbean, where he helped Fortune 500 companies develop markets in Latin America. He also helped draft the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), chaired the Latin American Telecommunications Working Group, and supervised a survey of the Latin American computer market. Ashby holds a master's degree in marketing and international business from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and a Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Southern California. He has published two books and over 100 articles. Yearta's background includes international and domestic public relations, advertising, and marketing. She has held management positions with a telecommunications start-up in Palo Alto, Calif., and Microsoft WebTV's strategic communications firm in Silicon Valley. In Hong Kong, she worked in marketing and PR for Rupert Murdoch's Satellite Television Asian Region (STAR), and Asian Sources Media Group. In Germany, she worked in marketing at Mars International. Yearta holds a bachelor's degree in communications/journalism from Northern Arizona University, and a master's degree in marketing and international management from Thunderbird: The American Graduate School of International Management.
