PTC to Provide 64-Bit MCAD Solution on HP Systems For PTC Pro/ENGINEER

NEEDHAM, MA –PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), today announced that it will provide 64-bit processing support for its Pro/ENGINEER(R) 2001 and Pro/MECHANICA(R) 2001 design software in the HP-UX PA-RISC environment. In addition, PTC will also be offering support for Itanium-based systems that will reportedly make Hewlett-Packard Company the only hardware vendor to support 64-bit processing for Pro/ENGINEER in both the Windows and UNIX environments. Sixty-four bit architectures have become a key issue in the mechanical computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) market as product development engineers work on larger and more complex data sets. The 64-bit environment allows users to process large amounts of data and run engineering applications by allowing significantly more address space than previous technology. "Sixty-four bit processing allows engineers to tackle the most complex jobs," said James Heppelmann, chief techno logy officer and executive vice president, Software Products, PTC. "Industrial strength processing has become more strategic as product complexity and the resulting file sizes have expanded. PTC is committed to working with HP to support the widest possible range of computing platforms to satisfy our customers' needs." "By working with PTC, a leading provider of product development solutions, HP can reach a large proportion of the technical and engineering marketplace with cutting-edge computer processing solutions," said Jim Zafarana, marketing manager of HP's Technical Computing Division. "The long-standing business relationship between HP and PTC provides the engineering community the flexibility to leverage the Windows or HP-UX operating environments or use both."
