Turbolinux Names Ly-Huong Pham Chief Executive Officer

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Turbolinux(R), Inc., a leader in high-performance Linux for Internet infrastructure solutions, today announced that Ly-Huong Pham has been named Chief Executive Officer. Pham, a 20 year computing industry veteran, has been with Turbolinux since June 2000 and most recently served as Chief Operating Officer. Under her leadership, the company developed -- and brought to market ahead of schedule -- its first Linux operating system featuring a unified code base for multiple language support from one CD (Editors' Note: "Turbolinux Server 6.5 Delivers Multilingual Enterprise LINUX Software Solution") and support for Intel's 64-bit Itanium Processor Architecture (Editors' Note: "Turbolinux Operating System 7 to be Released for Intel Itanium(TM)-Based Systems"). Both features are key to the strategy Pham has been working on this past year: to enable affordable and manageable enterprise computing with Linux. "I think the world of Ly on both a personal and professional basis, and she's absolutely the right choice for this job," said T. Paul Thomas, Chairman of the Board for Turbolinux. "I brought her to the company a year ago to address our technology portfolio and develop a strategy for making Turbolinux a highly competitive business -- she's done that and much more. In fact, she's been running the company day-to-day for months. This announcement only affirms what the rest of us here have known." "In the year she's been with the company, Ly has made a huge impact on the direction, the vision, and the accomplishments of Turbolinux," continued Andy Rappaport, a member of company Board and a partner at VC firm, August Capital. "Her proven track record, inspiring teams to meet and exceed goals, combined with her business management expertise and personal brilliance, has won her the confidence and admiration of employees and backers alike. With Ly as CEO, and with the product and market strategy she and her team have developed, Turbolinux is now well positioned to facilitate the adoption of Linux as an enterprise-class computing platform and evolve into a world-class enterprise software company." Commenting on the firm's ongoing strategy, Pham said, "Linux is catching on globally, but the process of implementing and managing it as a platform for software development and Web-centric enterprise computing is still complex. Our plan is to change that. We will introduce products that make implementing Linux solutions for managing any kind of business, anywhere in the world, simple." In the course of her career, Pham has developed and patented a number of significant technologies. She owns seven patents in data object integration and visual communications, and is co-inventor of six pending patents in systems and human interface design of interactive visual communications systems. Prior to joining Turbolinux, Pham served as Chief Operating Officer for Onscreen24, a spin-off from VTEL Corporation. Previously, she led a global engineering team in the effort to design the new user interface and experience for Apple Computer's Macintosh OS 8. Pham has also held senior positions with Wang and Mitre Corporation. Pham has a master's degree in Computer Information Systems and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, both from Boston University.
