Tilera and Qosmos Collaborate to Offer Up to 50 Gbps of Network Intelligence in a 2U Linux Server

Tilera Corporation has announced the highest performance network intelligence Linux server solution, at a whopping 50 gigabits per-second. The solution runs Qosmos technology software stack on the Tilera-based S2Q server, available from Quanta Computers. The server combines up to eight Tilera TilePro64(tm) processors into a 2U form factor, enabling dramatically increased performance in a standard Linux environment. Other solutions in the market today require exotic ASICs which are hard to program or expensive high-power servers to achieve the same performance.

With increased use of cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, proliferation of mobile devices and cyber-attacks and terrorism, network security is more important than ever. Enterprise, governments and telecommunication companies need to monitor and control the data on their network. The combination of Qosmos and Tilera offers a turnkey network intelligence platform that provides:

Port-independent classification + metadata extraction
1000+ protocols and applications, 4500+ metadata
Metadata at network, application, user level
Value added applications include Policy and Charging Control (PCC), operator BI and subscriber analytics, subscriber Quality of Experience, mobile Web market research, cyber security and more
2U Linux server with low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

"With up to 512 cores, integrated 10 Gig ports, and low power consumption, this server is the highest performance and performance per-watt Linux box in the industry," said Vijay Aggarwal, Vice President of Business Development at Tilera. "We are very happy to work with Qosmos, the premier deep packet inspection and network intelligence software vendor. Our joint solution is getting a lot of traction with software as a service vendors and government agencies, which are looking to enhance their security."

The Tilera-based S2Q server is available today in production from Quanta Computer, one of the world's largest server makers. It provides customers with the latest server design and highest level of integration, including:

Eight hot-pluggable nodes each containing the 64-core TILEPro64 processor
16 x 10 GbE ports and 16 x 1 GbE ports
Up to 64 DIMM slots
Up to twenty four 2.5" hot-plug SAS, SATA or solid state hard drives
Front-mounted 2.5" hot-pluggable hard drives

"Customers use Qosmos software to decode traffic in real-time at core network speeds. With the increasing threat and the explosive growth of mobile data, there is an increasing demand for our technology," said Qosmos CEO, Thibaut Bechetoille." Tilera provides a very high performance standard Linux box that can be easily deployed and managed in any of the vendors' datacenters while providing multiples in improvement of performance, power efficiency and density."
