CESGA wins award for 'Rural Schools & Cloud Computing' project

"Rural Schools & Cloud Computing" research project that Supercomputing Center of Galicia (CESGA) developed in collaboration with the College of Rural Grouped Boqueixón-Vedra, has emerged as one of the winning projects in the prestigious International Awards Educared 2011, funded by Fundación Telefónica, which reward the most outstanding experiences in educational innovation with Information Technology and Communication.

An international jury of 80 experts in education around the world assessed the nearly 4,000 projects in 29 countries were submitted to this edition of Educare. Selected as a semifinalist in two categories, the project received the award CESGA "Finalist" in the Type A II (virtual desktop to students of early childhood education), after another three projects, two Spanish and one Argentine. On 20, 21 and 22 October, project leaders and teachers participating in this pilot project will participate as guests in the International Educared in Madrid, to be held during the awards ceremony.

This is not the first award received by "Rural Schools & Cloud Computing" and in December 2010 was selected by the association EGANET as one of the four most important projects in Galicia in the category of "Digital School" from the more than 90 submitted.

EDUCATION IN THE CLOUD
Rural Schools & Cloud Computing is a research project funded by HP Labs, the research lab of Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto, USA, and has the support of the Ministry of Education of the Xunta de Galicia and the City Council of Boqueixón and Vedra.Designed by the departments of e-Learning and CESGA systems, aims to develop and evaluate a solution based on cloud computing platform that provides intuitive and easy to support remote collaborative learning and community education in rural schools. The pilot has been implemented during the last year in the College Rural Grouped Boqueixón-Vedra, in collaboration with the educational community itself.

 
"Rural Schools & Cloud Computing" takes the interest of CESGA to improve access to the most advanced solutions to enhance training and collaborative work in rural educational communities of Galicia, characterized by sparse population and limited access to technology resources.
