Internap Announces High-Performance, Dual-Hypervisor Cloud Compute Service
Internap Network Services Corporation has announced a new on-demand cloud compute service that delivers high-performance enterprise computing capacity. The new offering builds on Internap’s recently-announced public cloud storage and is a natural extension of its comprehensive IT Infrastructure portfolio, which includes performance-optimized enterprise IP, Content Delivery Network, colocation, managed hosting and cloud services. Internap will showcase its cloud offering at Interop Las Vegas, May 10-12, 2011, in booth 1106.
Delivered on Internap’s global Performance IP network – with patented Managed Internet Route Optimizer (MIRO) technology – outbound cloud traffic travels over the optimal Internet path, maximizing performance and minimizing latency all the way to the end user. The unparalleled capabilities of MIRO combine the strength of multiple, redundant carrier backbones worldwide with powerful real-time analysis of network characteristics, such as packet loss and outages, allowing Internap to provide cloud customers with a 100 percent network uptime Service Level Agreement (SLA).
Internap’s cloud services offer enterprises unmatched flexibility, with the ability to choose VMware hypervisors for enterprise-class features and reliability or open source hypervisors for superior cost profiles. This approach also allows customers to “future-proof” cloud investments, enabling the transition from one cloud platform to another as priorities and business needs shift over time. A convenient, “pay-as-you-go” web-based service, Internap’s new cloud compute offering is based on the OpenStack open source cloud platform and provides on-demand provisioning and scaling of computing capacity to meet changing demands for web resources and applications.
“Enterprise IT and engineering organizations increasingly require powerful but flexible IT outsourcing solutions to best serve their end users with the desired mix of performance, cost and support,” said Paul Carmody, senior vice president of product management and business development at Internap. “The introduction of Internap’s new cloud compute service allows us to provide a complete range of intelligent IT Infrastructure solutions that effortlessly meet these demands – from cloud capacity and storage to managed hosting, colocation and a CDN – all delivered with unparalleled performance and availability to ensure mission-critical data arrives at the speed of business.”
Internap’s cloud compute service is planned for general availability in Q3 2011. Additionally, Internap’s cloud storage service, announced in beta release in January 2011, will be generally available in June 2011.
