GreenBytes Selected by HyTrust for Increased Virtual Storage Performance and Server Consolidation
GreenBytes has announced that HyTrust, the leader in policy management and access control for virtualization infrastructure, selected GreenBytes to consolidate four disparate NAS servers down to a single appliance and to decrease NFS latency. HyTrust gained inline deduplication with a VMware certified storage environment and was able to increase the reliability of its storage infrastructure and the productivity of its software engineering team.
HyTrust has customers across myriad verticals including government, military, education, healthcare and retail. HyTrust generates considerable amounts of data in its software builds, virtual infrastructure footprint, and in tests and simulations. One of HyTrust's primary research and development goals is the simulation of complex enterprise environments that require sophisticated virtual deployments and, thus, additional datacenter, dynamic configuration and other resources.
HyTrust installed a single GreenBytes GB-2000 high-performance, energy-efficient inline deduplication storage appliance NAS for NFSv4 and iSCSI use. Real-time, inline deduplication to oversubscribe physical disk capacities was key to enabling HyTrust to host large software builds. With its unique, next-generation Hybrid Storage Architecture (HSA), offering scalable performance via solid state technology and the ability to support simultaneous SAN and NAS deployments, the GB-2000 was implemented as both iSCSI and NFS storage for two dozen VMware ESX servers, while concurrently providing high-performance NFS sharing for engineering software build resources, and for efficient build archival.
"Due to the high-performance NFS with inline deduplication, the GreenBytes GB-2000 was the best solution to address our business needs," said Will DeHaan, engineering manager, HyTrust. "The cost and value were also favorable when compared to competitive solutions on the market."
After implementing the GreenBytes GB-2000, HyTrust significantly increased the reliability of its storage infrastructure, elevated the productivity of its software engineering team with the ability to enjoy quicker builds, and substantially increased its build archival capacity.
"Simulating complex, multi-tier enterprise and government networks with hundreds of ESX hosts, HyTrust has benefited by virtualizing ESX using NFS storage backed by the GreenBytes GB-2000," said DeHaan. "Our dynamic virtual environment storage needs are being well met."
HyTrust was introduced to the GreenBytes solution by value-added reseller, Enterprise Storage Solutions (ESS) Direct, Inc. Understanding the storage requirements of HyTrust, they recommended the GreenBytes GB-2000, knowing that it would be the right solution at a competitive price.
"Our goal is to always recommend the optimal solution for the problem a customer is experiencing," said Mike Woodruff, senior sales engineer, ESS Direct. "For HyTrust's demanding and dynamic virtual environment storage requirements, we felt that GreenBytes' highly flexible Hybrid Storage Architecture with inline deduplication would enable HyTrust to meet its needs cost efficiently."
GreenBytes' next-generation Hybrid Storage Architecture (HSA) combines high-performance solid state storage technology, energy efficient 2.5" SATA drives, high-performance inline data deduplication, simultaneous SAN and NAS connectivity, MAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks) disk power state management and 10 GbE connectivity to create a high-performance, highly flexible architecture that is also extremely power-efficient and affordably priced. While some competing deduplication technologies offer software-only solutions that require third party hardware integration, GreenBytes' GB-X Series features complete turnkey appliances that have been purpose-built to bring the efficiencies of deduplication beyond backup and data protection and into the primary storage market.
