ActiveState, Rogue Wave Partner to Support Python Development

ActiveState and Rogue Wave Software have announced a partnership to make Python development far easier and more powerful when building applications utilizing mathematical and statistical algorithms. Rogue Wave's IMSL Numerical Libraries are now accessible through PyIMSL wrappers included in ActivePython Community Edition. Along with PyIMSL, ActiveState's ActivePython now includes key open source financial & scientific modules: Numpy, SciPy and matplotlib in the Community Edition.

Rogue Wave's IMSL Numerical Libraries are a comprehensive set of mathematical and statistical functions that programmers can embed into their software applications. These libraries are written by a highly specialized team of mathematicians, statisticians and computer scientists that focus on the quality and reliability of the numerical algorithms, as well as the performance, portability and scalability of the libraries. Customers are supported with a professional team of technical support engineers, making these libraries the right choice for critical scientific and business applications.

ActivePython Community Edition is a freely downloadable Python distribution pre-compiled with popular Python packages designed for the open source community and prototyping in enterprise environments, it enables easy deployment to production by moving from ActivePython Community Edition to Business or Enterprise Edition.

"We're delighted to be in partnership with ActiveState. This gives Python programmers direct access to our leading-edge mathematical and statistical libraries, not only giving them the flexibility they need, but also providing them the confidence that the algorithms they're building on are rock-solid," said Brian Pierce, CEO of Rogue Wave Software. "IMSL is used in a broad range of critical applications including programs that predict the weather, enable innovative study of the human genome, predict stock market behavior and provide risk management and portfolio optimization."

"Rogue Wave is well-known for the quality of their IMSL Numerical Libraries. Providing easy access to these powerful libraries gives Python programmers a big leg up with improved quality of code, reduced cost, more platforms, rapid prototyping, and a lot more," said Bart Copeland, President & CEO at ActiveState. "Making this available in our Community Edition for free for the first time is a very positive step, I believe, and is a fantastic way to promote and extend Python development."
