Kaminario Cuts in Half the Run Time of Digital Trowel’s Web Mining Process

Kaminario has announced that Digital Trowel, a leading Web mining vendor, selected Kaminario’s K2 high-performance DRAM storage appliance to cut in half the run time of its Web mining process and speed data delivery to its customers.

Digital Trowel harvests data (structured and unstructured) through Web crawlers and maintains multiple databases with a combined total of more than 10 billion records for person/position/company data discovery and aggregation, sentiment analysis and market mapping, and brand awareness analysis. In one of its applications, Digital Trowel was cleansing and matching more than 5 billion records of companies and business professionals and needed to shorten the cycle time required to process this data. Also, while processing the data, Digital Trowel needed to be able to find errors and make corrections quickly to meet its customers’ requirements.

Kaminario reduces Web mining processes by 50 percent

Digital Trowel selected Kaminario to reduce the processing time of its match-and-merge application. After one hour of installation and setup, Kaminario’s K2 high performance storage appliance was in place and processing the customer data files through the company’s application. The Kaminario K2 cut in half the time it took to process the data and check for errors — reducing time from more than one week to only three days.

This 50 percent improvement in application processing time also cut in half data delivery time, enabling Digital Trowel to meet its customers’ expectations for quick delivery of accurate customer information. Kaminario’s K2 supports industry-standard storage protocols, making the transition from Digital Trowel’s traditional Web mining and warehousing transparent to both its applications and its Microsoft SQL Server backup environment — saving valuable time and setup costs.

“Kaminario has shortened our data processing cycle by 50 percent, enabling us to deliver information faster to our customers,” said Anton Bar, CTO of Digital Trowel. “The transition to Kaminario was fast, and the integration with our data processing application and database was seamless, saving us time and money.”

The Kaminario K2 appliance dramatically reduces disk latency and random disk I/O waits and consistently performs under heavy loads. Kaminario K2 has no single point of failure, so it maintains operational status and data availability. Kaminario K2’s industry-standard components make it easy to install and maintain, reducing operations, maintenance and service costs.

“Web mining companies are processing huge amounts of data very quickly and cannot afford any delays in processing time, or they will lose their competitive edge,” said Gareth Taube, Kaminario’s vice president of marketing. “Digital Trowel discovered that Kaminario is not only fast and easy to install but, in addition, can also accelerate the run time of key applications to deliver faster access to customer data.”
