Northwestern University Launches Online Master of Science in Predictive Analytics Program

Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies is launching an online Master of Science in Predictive Analytics (MSPA) program to meet the increasing marketplace demand for expertise in all aspects of data management and business intelligence.  More than ever, organizations emphasize the value of data-driven decision making, and the school is responding with a program that cultivates leadership in this growing field. The online format makes the curriculum available to students nationwide, as well as offering the convenience of distance learning to the working professionals enrolled in the program. Students can apply to the program now, with classes beginning in fall 2011.

The MSPA program offers students a thorough grounding in data mining concepts and applications. It also focuses on developing the strategic, project-management and communication skills that leaders utilize to effectively forecast and implement new initiatives. Advanced data analysis, advanced statistics, database management, financial analysis, web analytics, predictive modeling and marketing analytics are just some of the program's areas of study.

"Our MSPA program is a true reflection of what makes Northwestern great -- we develop leaders in cutting edge disciplines by providing access to world-class faculty," said Joel Shapiro, associate dean of academics. "Our graduates will use analytics to help organizations maximize the value of their data and improve their performance."

The MPSA program is currently the only predictive analytics master's program that allows students to complete all coursework online. The learning environment is both rigorous and supportive, with courses taught by distinguished Northwestern faculty and seasoned industry experts who share practical insights and cutting-edge knowledge from the field. Students also receive support services including technical assistance and dedicated academic advisers.

The demand for analytics expertise is supported by research from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which predicts a 13 percent increase in the need for statisticians, a 22 percent increase in demand for operations research analysts and a 24 percent increase in management analysis, all within the next eight years. And while the demand for analytical skills crosses multiple industries, fields such as marketing, health care and finance are expected to experience a particularly strong need for analytics professionals.
