PHD Virtual Brings Simplicity to Scalable, High-Performance VMware Backup and Recovery

PHD Virtual Technologies has announced PHD Virtual Backup 5.1 for VMware vSphere. The new release brings simplified deployment and integrated management to PHD’s award winning VBA (Virtual Backup Appliance) architecture, recognized as the most scalable virtualization backup and recovery solution on the market. PHD Virtual pioneered the VBA in 2006 as a better way to provide VMware backup and recovery. This unique approach is becoming a preferred choice for customers and managed service providers with large-scale VMware deployments.

Purpose-built for virtualization, the PHD VBA architecture enables backup and recovery to be deployed as a virtualized workload directly on the vSphere platform. This evolutionary approach allows PHD Virtual Backup to leverage the advanced capabilities of the virtualization infrastructure providing seamless scalability and integrated management through vSphere client. Unlike alternative solutions, PHD Virtual Backup removes the need to deploy and manage a separate physical server or software agents for backup and recovery of the virtual environment.

PHD Virtual Backup 5.1 is purpose-built for VMware vSphere and delivers:

  • Faster Backup to Meet Backup Windows – Leveraging multiple backup streams and support for Changed Block Tracking (CBT)
  • Fast Recovery to Meet RPO and RTO – Providing multiple restore streams for full VMs or individual Virtual Disks, and enabling direct recovery of files and application objects
  • Reliable Backup and Restore – PHD’s TrueRestore Technology provides integrated data integrity checking during both the backup and restore processes
  • Simplified Deployment and Integrated Management– Deploys as a virtual appliance on the vSphere platform with single pane of glass management through vSphere Client
  • Cost Effective Solution – PHD’s TrueDedupe Technology provides built-in, source-side data deduplication reducing backup storage requirements by up to 90%

“When we previously deployed PHD Virtual for our VMware ESX environment, we were able to cut our backup times in half and our storage requirements shrank, giving us an immediate ROI,” said Matt Wood, Senior Server Administrator, Canada ADP. “From early testing, we have seen that the new release is much easier to deploy and manage and we like the simplified approach. We look forward to leveraging the value we have seen with PHD Virtual Backup as we expand our vSphere deployment on the ESXi platform.”

“As a long time user of PHD Virtual, we are excited about the new release and really like the approach and direction of the product,” said Lewis Benton, Network Administrator, Sugar Foods Corporation. “Deployment is greatly simplified in the new version and the integration with vSphere client makes the solution easy to manage. We look forward to leveraging the new release as we migrate our vSphere deployment to the ESXi platform.”

“The recent announcement from Quest regarding a future virtual appliance strategy supports and validates the fact that our solution is superior to other alternatives in the market,” said Thomas Charlton, Chairman and CEO of PHD Virtual Technologies. “Our customers continue to affirm that we have been on the right track to provide scalable and efficient VMware backup with the VBA architecture we pioneered back in 2006. We are seeing an increase in competitive wins for customers with large-scale deployments and managed service providers with cloud computing environments. The enhancements delivered in the 5.1 release will increase our opportunity to provide simple and scalable VMware data protection to these growing markets.”
