Versant and CRL Partner to Provide End-to-End High Performance Solutions in the Cloud
Versant Corporation and CRL are entering into a strategic partnership agreement. Many of today's emerging HPC applications must handle complex and large volumes of data, which if not managed appropriately, may result in a serious performance bottleneck. Together, Versant and CRL are committed to meeting the end-to-end performance needs of its customers by integrating one of the world's fastest database engines into one of the world's fastest supercomputing environments. The provisioning of end-to-end high performance solutions in a tensile (hyper-elastic performance resilient) cloud infrastructure at CRL will provide a perfect launch pad for innovators in cutting-edge industries and expanding markets in the high performance computing space.
Versant and CRL are demonstrating a Proof of Concept (POC) of the combined offering at Super Computing 2010 being held in New Orleans, LA from November 15 -- 18, 2010. In this POC, CRL's Platform as a Service (PaaS) leverages Versant's database engine, running on a highly scalable Linux cluster, to demonstrate seamless performance oriented scalability of elastic database services underpinned by a tensile computing infrastructure. The live demonstration showcases sustained performance of complex analytics in the face of increasing data.
"We are excited about entering a strategic partnership with CRL, helping us to further validate Versant's versatility as the leading edge high performance database engine. Over the next several months, CRL and Versant are planning to introduce new services for the high performance computing (HPC) markets," says Dirk Bartels, Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Product Management at Versant. "At Super Computing 2010 in New Orleans this week, we are demonstrating a Proof of Concept, a highly scalable, high performance graph database implementation, to showcase the benefits of the combined offering," explains Bartels.
Computational Research Laboratories is a member company of the prestigious Tata Group and is committed to be a global leader in the provisioning of HPC cloud services, enabling its clients to harness the full power of supercomputing without incurring huge upfront capital expenditures, experiencing delays, or requiring specialized skills which are in short supply.
"Enhancing complex data management capabilities of HPC applications without sacrificing performance allows us to offer a comprehensive solution stack to our data-intensive HPC customers," says Dr. Vipin Chaudhary, CEO of CRL. "Having a proven high-performance data engine from Versant in our tensile cloud will be of significant value to our customers."
CRL and Versant are targeting to introduce combined services in the 1st half of calendar year 2011.
Versant Object Database
The Versant Object Database (VOD) provides powerful advantages to developers creating C++, Java or .NET object models, supporting massive concurrency and large data sets. The advantages of VOD's performance and scalability provide for a more efficient production environment, often supporting 10x more concurrent users and 10x faster data access speed compared to relational databases.
