Interview with Daniel Kim, CEO, APPRO

Supercomputing Online Live from SC2003 -- Chris O'Neal met with Daniel Kim, CEO of APPRO of Milpitas, California for an overview of Appro’s HPC Cluster Solutions and Appro’s product demonstrations at SC2003. Supercomputing Online: Please give us an overview of Appro’s HPC Cluster Solutions. DK: We offer Appro 1U Clusters as well as our new Appro HyperBlade Cluster Solutions, designed specifically for the High-Performance Computing market. The Appro HyperBlade Full-Size Cluster supports up to 80 compute blades and up to 160 Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron Processors. Appro HyperBlade architecture doubles the current rack density using 1U servers. Because Appro HyperBlade Clusters are flexible, modular scalable architecture, it is easy to deploy in any data center. Appro also offers HyperBlade Mini-Cluster solution. The Mini-Cluster is a fully integrated cluster supporting up to 17 compute blades including a master node. This is the ideal solution for customers who want to start small in a modular clustering computing environment. Blade servers fit both cluster cabinets with the ability to mix and match blades as needed. We offer Cluster Management Solution, high-speed interconnect options and a choice of Linux or Windows operating systems. Appro delivers quality products while offering an excellent price to performance ratio. For our HPC product porfolio, please refer to our presentation. (Please see graphic below). Supercomputing Online: What product demonstrations Appro will showcase at the SC2003? DK: Appro will be demonstrating its HyperBlade Full-Size Cluster supporting up to 80 blades/160 CPUs in one cabinet, utilizing the Linux operating system and demonstrating the Appro Cluster Management Solutions. Appro’s cluster management consists of Appro BladeDome Remote Management Software and Appro Command Center, cluster management appliance. The Command Center is integrated with BladeDome Remote Management Software providing node power control, platform monitoring such as CPU temperature, fan RPM and power voltages, and remote serial communication. Other features include Blade ID control as well as configurable e-mail notification scheme. Appro Cluster Management Solution is the latest innovation in Appro’s HyperBlade Architecture. It delivers cluster management functions, reduces IT complexity and improves administration efficiency while lowering the total cost of ownership. Appro will also demonstrate the Appro HyperBlade Clusters at the AMD, Computer Science Corporation and Raytheon booths. Raytheon will be demonstrating an exciting demonstration of the power of grid computing using 4 compute clusters containing a total of 224 processors. In support of this demonstration, Appro also provided the HyperBlade Full-Size Cluster using 32-AMD Opteron based systems interconnected with 3000 series InfiniBand switch provided by InfiniCon Systems. We are excited to be here and we welcome customers who want to check us out. Please contact Anthony Kenisky at (512) 751-2713 or email at kenisky@appro.com to schedule one-on-one demonstrations.
