RadiSys Corporation has announced that it was chosen by the AdvancedTCA Summit as the Best-of-Show Award winner in the category of Best Unique Customer Application for the LTE SEG, a security gateway targeted for Long Term Evolution (LTE) deployments. The annual Best-of-Show Awards represent a premier opportunity for industry recognition of innovative technology and how it is being used in the marketplace. The Best-of-Show winners were honored during the All-Industry Reception on Wednesday, November 10.

Mobile operators worldwide are planning and deploying LTE networks, but they must now consider cost-effective solutions to address the security issues associated with the all-IP architecture, including user authentication, data integrity and encryption, all at a carrier grade level. The LTE SEG is a purpose-built security gateway developed to secure the connections between network elements over untrusted communication links and can be easily and cost-effectively integrated into Telecom Equipment Manufacturers' (TEM) LTE network elements.

The RadiSys LTE SEG is a purpose-built security gateway that can be deployed as a complete standalone network element solution, or easily integrated into existing TEM products as an ATCA blade. The LTE SEG is the first 3GPP Network Domain Security (NDS) compliant security gateway that enables high-performance firewall and IPsec tunneling in a single carrier grade solution, providing more than 5x performance improvement over current solutions in a fully redundant 2U system. This level of performance is required to ensure cost-effective security for new access networks and inter-domain links supporting massive amounts of IP data from thousands of LTE cell sites. The LTE SEG also provides a stateful firewall with robust IP filters and attack prevention mechanisms to protect Enhanced Packet Core network elements from security threats and cyber attacks. It supports more than four million concurrent IP flows with pre-defined and custom filters, consistency checks and denial-of-service (DoS) prevention mechanisms. In addition, the LTE SEG enables operators to enhance their existing 2G/3G mobile networks with secure wireless access solutions - including femtocells, I-WLAN and UMA/GAN - that use the public Internet to securely backhaul voice, data and video traffic.
