IBM integrates Mellanox InfiniBand switch systems
Mellanox Technologies has announced that its IS5000 line of 108 and 324-port modular 40Gb/s InfiniBand switches with robust latency performance, are now offered through IBM's iDataPlex and Intelligent Cluster product lines. Mellanox's switch systems, in tandem with it's ConnectX-2 40Gb/s InfiniBand adapters, give IBM customers I/O infrastructure performance and scalability for data centers, Cloud, Web 2.0 and high-performance computing environments.
Mellanox claims that HPC and enterprise data center IT managers utilizing the IS5100 and IS5300 can have a greater return on their computer and infrastructure investments through increased CPU productivity via higher network throughput and availability. The dense IS5100 108-port and IS5300 324-port switches were made using Mellanox's fourth-generation InfiniScale IV InfiniBand switch device and can yield up to 40Gb/s fully, non-blocking, bidirectional bandwidth per port with a 300ns port-to-port latency. Networks built with the IS5100 and IS5300 can transmit converged traffic with the combination of assured bandwidth and granular quality of service.
VP for Deep Computing at IBM, David Turek says, "IBM is delivering solutions that maximize application performance and also meet the requirements for infrastructure economics and green initiatives." He explains that the Mellanox 40Gb/s InfiniBand switches complement their Intelligent Cluster and iDataPlex products providing customers who are designing large HPC systems, clouds and virtualized data centers with scalability, performance, and economics.
