Mellanox Virtual Protocol Interconnect Adapter Silicon Ships Embedded on HP ProLiant Servers

Mellanox Technologies has announced that its ConnectX-2 adapter silicon with Virtual Protocol Interconnect (VPI) technology has been integrated onto the new HP ProLiant SL390 G7 server and HP ProLiant BL2x220 G7 server blade. Mellanox's ConnectX-2 VPI adapter silicon provides industry-leading bandwidth and latency performance over 40Gb/s InfiniBand and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, delivering unmatched clustering, GPU-based computing, and I/O virtualization performance.

"From high-performance computing, virtualized and cloud data centers to high-frequency trading in financial services markets, choosing the optimal fabric for your data center can be challenging," said John Monson, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "By delivering Mellanox InfiniBand and Ethernet fabric selection flexibility on the motherboard, HP is providing its customers with a single, optimized solution for a wide range of performance-demanding applications and networking needs."

"Clients require high-performance servers capable of supporting business-critical applications and network-intensive workloads to gain a competitive business advantage," said Madhu Matta, Vice President and General Manager, Industry Standard Servers Service Provider and High-Performance Computing Business, HP. "With Mellanox ConnectX-2 VPI technology, HP's new ProLiant SL390 G7 server and ProLiant BL2x220 G7 server blade provides multiple connectivity options on the same server I/O ports to maximize performance."

Mellanox ConnectX-2 VPI adapter silicon can connect to either 40Gb/s InfiniBand or 10GigE networks and is suited to a variety of business and clustering applications. ConnectX-2's 40Gb/s InfiniBand connectivity, with its 1us application latency, enables high server productivity and supports application and communication offloads with CORE-Direct and GPU efficiency enhancements via NVIDIA GPUDirect. ConnectX-2's 10GigE connectivity, with support for industry-standard RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE), delivers industry-leading Ethernet-based latency of 1.3us. FlexBoot enables servers to boot from remote InfiniBand or LAN storage targets and makes it easier for IT managers to deploy infrastructure that meets the challenges of a dynamic data center. ConnectX-2 with Virtual Intelligent Queuing (Virtual-IQ) technology provides dedicated adapter resources, isolation and protection for virtual machines (VM) within the server.
