Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS) and EMC Corp, the world leader in information storage and management, announced a global reseller agreement enabling SIS to offer the full-range of EMC networked storage systems, software and services to the upstream oil and gas market. To help oil and gas companies store, manage and protect their valuable information and data, SIS will offer EMC Symmetrix, EMC CLARiiON, EMC Celerra and EMC Centera networked storage systems, as well as EMC Documentum content management software and the EMC ControlCenter family of management software as part of the SIS integrated workflow and petrotechnical infrastructure solution. The organizations also announced plans to jointly develop solutions for oil and gas information lifecycle management that will further enhance a company's ability to capture, archive and leverage upstream data. EMC and SIS will focus on document and workflow management, as well as integrated backup and recovery for the SIS suite of reservoir and InfoStream lifecycle information management applications that integrate project management, geology, geophysics, modeling, drilling, economics and production. Sanjaya Sood, vice president of infrastructure services at SIS, said, "SIS and EMC are working together to provide customers with an integrated view of all of their information assets, both structured and unstructured. The ability to match storage resources to the value of information at any given point in time will enable companies to reduce their overall cost while improving the efficiency and productivity of their workforce and core operational processes. SIS is leveraging EMC technology to achieve this objective." "EMC helps customers throughout the world manage their growing information -- from the time of its creation to its archival and eventual disposal -- through information lifecycle management," said David Goulden, executive vice president of customer operations at EMC. "Schlumberger's expertise in the oil and gas business combined with EMC's industry leading storage solutions will help customers better manage their valuable information assets. Information is at the core of all oil and gas decisions and by working with SIS, EMC will be able to deliver integrated solutions to the exploration and production market faster."
