LSI Logic Demos Industry's First SATA II Raid Storage Adapter

LSI Logic Corporation will demonstrate the industry's first IOP-based SATA II RAID storage adapter, the MegaRAID SATA 300-8X, inside two 3U, 16-bay Advanced Industrial Computer (AIC) storage server + expansion chassis at the Intel Developers Forum Fall 2004, held September 7-9 at the Moscone South Convention Center, San Francisco, CA. "The LSI Logic MegaRAID SATA 300-8X, the first SATA II RAID controller in the world, was populated into our RMC3E and RMS3E (http://www.aicipc.com) to provide a level of cost-effective performance that no other company can match," said Gene Lee, vice president of Advanced Industrial Computer. "In addition, our customers will greatly benefit with Port Multiplier technology provided by LSI Logic on the MegaRAID SATA 300-8X that allows 32 SATA hard drives to be connected." From booth #817, LSI Logic will feature the first demonstration in the industry of a SATA II RAID adapter with Port Multiplier support, which allows users to connect up to 32 SATA hard drives using eight, 1-to-4 Port Multipliers; driving down the cost per port. In addition, benefits the Port Multiplier provides include: -- Utilization of the full bandwidth of the host connection; SATA II 3Gb/sec -- Simplified SATA RAID storage subsystem implementation -- Improved airflow in SATA storage subsystems -- Cable burden reduction -- High capacity SATA storage system (up to 12.8TB with 32, 400GB SATA drives) "The LSI Logic MegaRAID SATA II adapter delivers the industry-leading features of MegaRAID and outstanding drive attach scalability for high capacity, cost-sensitive storage applications," said Phil Bullinger, vice president and general manager of the LSI Logic RAID Storage Adapters Division. "The AIC storage server chassis is an ideal application for our MegaRAID SATA II adapter with its compact architecture and integrated Port Multiplier support. LSI Logic is pleased to team with AIC to bring this leading-edge solution to the storage market, ensuring our customers with interoperability and robust performance." The MegaRAID SATA 300-8X, ideal for entry-level to mid-range servers and network storage applications requiring a cost-effective and scalable SATA RAID interface, offers high data throughput, extensive fault tolerance capabilities and advanced management utilities. The SATA II adapter supports up to 32 devices with eight 1-to-4 Port Multipliers and provides twice the speed of SATA I. In addition, the MegaRAID SATA 300-8X features Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and enclosure management support.
