StorageTek Advances Solution Interoperability

StorageTek, the data storage solutions expert, today announced that its advanced D-Series(TM) and BladeStore/B-Series disk storage systems have been certified for conformance with the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) interface standard (v1.0.2). Spearheaded by the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), SMI-S is designed to help end users alleviate the complexity, administrative cost and interoperability challenges of implementing and managing multi-vendor storage environments. "By enabling interoperability with other vendor solutions, we are helping our customers to take another important step toward the realization of their information lifecycle management strategies," said Mark Ward, StorageTek vice president and general manager, Information Lifecycle Management Solutions. "Customers can deploy our premier, SMI-S certified disk storage solutions within their multi-vendor storage environments to achieve high-performance storage with a minimum of installation and management complexity." StorageTek's BladeStore/B-Series secondary disk storage solutions, developed in alliance with LSI Logic Storage Systems, and StorageTek's D- Series primary disk storage solutions recently passed SNIA's stringent Conformance Testing Program (SNIA-CTP) to earn the SMI-S certified designation. End users can visit SNIA's website (www.snia.org) for a complete listing of SMI-S compliant vendor solutions that have been officially badged and tested by SNIA. "Today's IT managers need high-performance, interoperable storage solutions that maximize the value of their storage investments from end to end," said Flavio Santoni, senior vice president of worldwide sales, marketing, and customer support, LSI Logic Storage Systems. "StorageTek's D-Series and B-Series disk storage solutions are designed for seamless compatibility with other SMI-S conformant solutions to decrease management complexity and increase overall performance and efficiency." Ray Dunn, chair of the SNIA's Storage Management Forum added, "We are very pleased to have StorageTek's D-Series and B-Series solutions conformant to the SMI-S 1.0.2 specification. This shows that StorageTek is behind SMI-S and that the industry is taking great steps toward decreasing the complexity and difficulty of managing multi-vendor storage architectures for end-users."
