SGI InfiniteStorage Products Compliant With New Industry Standards

Silicon Graphics today announced compliance with new storage industry standards for its InfiniteStorage line of products. SGI is one of the first to pass the rigorous Storage Networking Industry Association Conformance Testing Program (SNIA-CTP) in order to provide its customers with the benefits of standardized storage management including a reliable interface that allows storage management systems to identify, classify, monitor and control physical and logical storage resources. "The launch of the first set of conformant products illustrates major momentum and maturity in the storage market," stated Gabriel Broner, senior vice president and general manager, Storage and Software Group, SGI. "SGI is proud to be one of the first vendors collaborating with SNIA to test for SMI-S conformance. Together we will drive technological innovation while providing end users with what will be a widely adopted solution for easier implementation and daily storage management." By delivering Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) conformant products, SGI can drive efficiency across product development, delivery and deployment, enabling the development team to focus on technology execution and innovation. End users implementing SMI-S conformant products such as the SGI(R) InfiniteStorage line will gain increased productivity and efficiency in the daily management of their data. Additionally, the products that have passed the conformance test suites deliver increased confidence in the technology while reducing deployment and integration risks. "For the first time ever, end users will be able to select storage management products with SMI-S conformant interfaces, which will help make storage products simpler to implement and manage," said Ray Dunn, Chair of the SNIA Storage Management Forum. "Having industry leaders like SGI embrace SMI-S helps us to drive the adoption of standards and deliver new technological possibilities and benefits to the end user." The new industry standard, SMI-S based on the Common Information Model (CIM), also delivers a more effective way to integrate Storage Area Networks (SAN) and storage devices with storage management applications such as SGI(R) InfiniteStorage Resource Manager and AppIQ's StorageAuthority(TM). Offering platform independence, the intuitive user interface provides access to manage all storage elements from the application to the spindle. SGI(R) products that passed SNIA-CTP for SMI-S include: SGI(R) InfiniteStorage TP9300, SGI(R) InfiniteStorage TP9300S, SGI(R) InfiniteStorage TP9400, SGI(R) InfiniteStorage TP9500, SGI(R) InfiniteStorage TP9500S, SGI(R) InfiniteStorage NAS 2000, SGI(R) InfiniteStorage NAS 3000, SGI(R) InfiniteStorage SAN 2000 and SGI(R) InfiniteStorage SAN 3000.
