Communications & Development Coordinator

The Communications & Development Coordinator will build and manage a comprehensive, integrated program that includes the publicity, partnership, and business development activities at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC). This position will publicize and promote TACC activities and resources through preparation of press releases, news articles, and reports on achievements by TACC staff and users. The position will also help foster these activities through the development of proposals and partnerships with other academic organizations, government agencies, foundations, and technology companies. Position Responsibilities: * Promote the usage of TACC resources for advanced computational research by other UT centers and departments. Requires having discussions with researchers, preparing and delivering presentations to research groups, writing and submitting news articles to campus media sources, and writing user research summaries for TACC publications. * Initiate and coordinate TACC partnerships with UT academic centers and departments, other academic institutions, and government laboratories to initiate new research and development activities. Requires ability to comprehend and articulate TACC's research activities and expertise. * Promote/publicize the capabilities and accomplishments of TACC to local, state, and national media sources to increase awareness of TACC as an excellent potential partner in computational research and development activities. Requires interaction with media contacts, interviewing TACC staff and users, and preparation of press releases and news articles. * Identify opportunities and coordinate proposals to companies, foundations, and government funding agencies to help grow TACC research and development activities and to acquire and deploy new computing technologies of value to TACC's user community. Help track success of TACC proposals, donation requests, etc. Requires interaction with TACC technical staff to understand current and future technology trends and TACC user community needs. * Track impact of TACC resources and services on research conducted by TACC users. Requires interaction with TACC staff and external researchers who use TACC resources. * Help organize workshops and conferences on technical topics related to TACC resources and on R&D activities of interest to TACC. * Contribute input to and help prepare TACC posters, presentations, and Web content. * Maintain and improve message conveyed by appearance of TACC facilities through research posters, signage, displays and kiosks, etc. * Perform additional related tasks as needed. Required Qualifications: * Bachelors degree in a communications field (English, journalism, etc.) or business. * Two or more years of experience in development, fundraising, and/or public relations. * Excellent oral communications skills, including expertise in interviewing, preparing and giving presentations, and negotiating. * Excellent written communications skills, including expertise in writing press releases, new articles, and proposals. * Experience writing press releases and news articles. * Expertise with personal computers and productivity software including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and databases. * Strong interest in science and technology. * Excellent project management skills. Preferred Qualifications: * One or more years of experience working with researchers in a university environment. * History of leading successful proposals for external funding and donations. * Experience writing science outreach stories. * Familiarity with supercomputing, scientific visualization, and computational science. * Proficiency with graphics software such as Adobe PhotoShop and Macromedia Fireworks. * Proficiency with project management software such as Microsoft Project. * Expertise in Web design/development. * Experience hiring and mentoring student interns.
