StorageTek and BakBone Team to Deliver Solutions
SAN DIEGO, and LOUISVILLE, Colo. -- BakBone(TM) Software, a global provider of storage management software, announced today a joint offering with StorageTek(R) (Storage Technology Corp.) to provide Teradata(R) data warehouse customers direct access to enterprise-class tape silos through BakBone NetVault(TM). By integrating the NetVault enterprise storage management offering with StorageTek's ACSLS and LibStation modules, Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation, is able to offer its customers the option of utilizing shared StorageTek PowderHorn 9310/NCR 6476 and the StorageTek L5500/NCR 6477 tape silos for backup, archival and restore. The 9310 silos, which have a native capacity of 1.2 petabytes and utilize high performance 9840 and 9940 tapes drives, can be shared with either open systems or MVS applications, where the L5500/NCR 6477 is a dedicated Open Systems Solution offering SCSI and Fibre Ultrium or 9x40 drives. The solution has been certified by BakBone, in conjunction with StorageTek, and is available immediately and only through Teradata. "The NetVault solution has been well received by many Teradata customers, particularly those migrating from our legacy ASF2 backup, archive and restore offering," said Alan Chow, senior vice president, Teradata research and development. NetVault's advanced modular architecture provides IT managers with the flexibility to meet information storage needs as their businesses expand and change. NetVault is able to operate in multi-vendor networks and supports a broad range of platforms, applications and high performance tape devices.
