Gahagan Joins EMC as Senior Vice President, Storage Infrastructure Software

HOPKINTON, MA -- EMC Corporation, a world leader in information storage, today announced that Chris Gahagan, an accomplished executive with years of experience in leading storage-related software development, has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Storage Infrastructure Software. Gahagan joins EMC from BMC Software, where he was most recently Vice President and General Manager of the Enterprise Systems Management business unit. Gahagan will oversee the development of EMC's storage infrastructure software, a critical component of EMC's open storage software development efforts and part of the EMC AutoIS™ (Automated Information Storage) strategy. Introduced in October 2001, AutoIS provides management technologies and heterogeneous storage applications that deliver the advanced capabilities necessary to make storage management automated, simple and open. Gahagan reports to Erez Ofer, EMC's Executive Vice President of Open Software Operations. "Momentum has continued to build behind our open storage software since the introduction of the AutoIS initiative in October," said Ofer. "The expertise and industry experience Chris brings to EMC will play an integral role in delivering even greater software functionality to our customers. He will be pivotal as we continue to deliver on our vision of open, integrated storage software across the ever-changing and diverse computing enterprise." Gahagan spent the last two years at BMC Software, a leader in enterprise systems management. The majority of his tenure at the Houston-based software provider was focused on incorporating storage and recovery management functionality into BMC's existing systems management technologies. This included strategic technology direction, marketing, product positioning and business development. Prior to BMC, Gahagan spent eight years at Sterling Software/Spectra Logic in a number of roles, including Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He holds a B.S. in computer science from Colorado State University. Steve Duplessie, Senior Analyst at The Enterprise Storage Group, said, "Chris Gahagan is one of the true stars of the storage business. He's a proven winner who has the respect of pretty much everyone in the industry. I don't dole out this kind of praise lightly, but Gahagan deserves it. This is a real coup for EMC."
