StorageTek and LSI Logic Storage Systems to Offer New Storage Solutions

MILPITAS, CA -- StorageTek(R) (Storage Technology Corp.) (NYSE: STK), an expert in high-performance, efficient digitized data storage, and LSI Logic Storage Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) and a leading supplier of innovative storage solutions for the open enterprise, today introduced the new D178 disk storage system and SANtricity(TM) Storage Manager 8.0 software. The high-performance D178 and SANtricity are the first in a series of disk-based storage systems and management software offered by the companies through a new distribution relationship announced today. "The combination of the D178 and SANtricity software illustrates StorageTek's commitment to offering our customers the best solutions available for their storage challenges," said Tom Major, StorageTek vice president and general manager of the Disk Business Unit. "By establishing the alliance with LSI Logic Storage Systems, we're maximizing the strength of two industry leaders to provide our customers with a significant return on their investment through seamless implementation and consistent design." The D178 is a high-performance, enterprise-level open-system disk solution that gives customers the ability to grow storage at their own pace without over-buying to support future online storage needs. Tested for interoperability in storage area network (SAN) environments, the D178 works with major SAN hardware and software vendors' products. This further underscores StorageTek's commitment to its D-series product portfolio that offers customers long-term investment protection. In addition to the D178, StorageTek and LSI Logic Storage Systems have enhanced the software functionality available for StorageTek's D-series disk products. SANtricity Storage Manager 8.0, formerly known as Object Manager, is the latest version of software that provides centralized storage management. "With IT budgets shrinking and online storage demand continuing to increase, today's storage customer is looking for simplified management, higher degrees of centralization and storage that remains continuously available," said Randy Kerns, senior partner, Evaluator Group. "StorageTek and LSI Logic Storage Systems understand this, and today's release of the D178 and SANtricity 8.0 significantly expands customers' ability to address these issues." Designed to minimize disruption to customers' continuing operations, the D-series software suite now includes SnapShot copy capability, dynamic volume expansion features as well as remote mirroring capabilities. The D-series software suite also enables customers to lower their total cost of ownership by sharing D-series storage with more than 64 servers in a heterogeneous environment through the implementation of SANshare(TM) Storage Partitioning. "We are excited to team with StorageTek in offering LSI Logic's leading-edge open storage system and storage management software," said Flavio Santoni, vice president of sales and marketing for LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. "Leveraging both companies' core competencies, we can offer customers world class disk solutions that can be easily deployed and supported by StorageTek's world class service organization."
