MILPITAS, CA -- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative storage solutions for the open enterprise, today announced general availability of an end-to-end, two gigabit Fibre Channel storage solution. This solution can deliver data up to four times faster in high throughput applications as compared to previous generation one gigabit systems. This new solution integrates the MetaStor(R) E4600 and E4600 HPCx storage systems with the LSI Logic LSI449290 host bus adapter and the Brocade SilkWorm(R) 3800 Enterprise Fabric Switch (LSI Logic SAN Expansion Module). In addition, LSI Logic technical support representatives have been trained on all system components. As a result, LSI Logic Storage Systems will now deliver a factory-configured two gigabit storage solution and customers will have a single point of contact for support. The SAN Expansion Module is a selectable option of the MetaStor E4600 storage system and an integral component of the E4600 HPCx system, a high bandwidth storage system for high performance computing customers. When the selectable option is specified, LSI Logic Storage Systems builds the complete, two gigabit, end-to-end infrastructure by leveraging LSI Logic LSI449290 HBAs and the Brocade SilkWorm 3800 Enterprise Fabric Switch, which was named Best of COMDEX 2001 in the Networking Hardware category. The MetaStor E-Series scales more than four thousand fold, from 36 gigabytes to 160 terabytes (TB) of data storage capacity in the MetaStor E4600HPCx. The system can be configured to deliver remarkable performance with sustained data transfer rates up to 1.56 gigabytes per second and 440,000 IO transactions per second. In direct attach, storage area network (SAN), or network attached storage (NAS) configurations, MetaStor systems support AIX, HP-UX, IRIX, Linux, NetWare, Solaris, Windows NT, and Windows 2000.
