StorageTek Names New Vice President/GM of Disk Unit

LOUISVILLE, CO -- StorageTek(R) (Storage Technology Corp.) (NYSE: STK) named 20-year high-tech industry veteran Thomas M. Major vice president and general manager of the Disk Business Unit. In his new role, Major will be responsible for leading the online disk business, which includes the cutting-edge virtualization technology. Major will report to Pat Martin, StorageTek chairman, president and CEO. "Tom Major is a proven technology leader. He will lead the attack on the disk virtualization market," Martin said. "His experience as a GM, as well as in marketing and sales, positions him well for his new responsibilities, and reaffirms StorageTek's commitment to the online disk business." Major brings to StorageTek 19 years' experience with Hewlett-Packard where he earned progressively higher-level responsibilities in the areas of sales and marketing, becoming general manager in 1998 of its OpenView business unit, a billion-dollar network, systems and storage management software organization. For the past year, Major has served as vice president, Marketing, for ManagedStorage International in Broomfield. In that position, he was responsible for all aspects of marketing and the information technology used to service MSI's customer base. Major graduated from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, where he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He lives in Fort Collins with his wife, Traci, and two daughters.
