XIOtech Presents Storage Solution with Oracle9i on Multiple Platforms

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN -- XIOtech Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate Technology and a storage area network (SAN) pioneer, will exhibit one of the most comprehensive business continuity solutions demonstrated at Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco's Moscone Center, Dec. 2-7. XIOtech will demonstrate data storage for a heterogeneous clustered server environment, including hot backup and recovery of an Oracle9i database. The mission-critical nature of Oracle's technology requires a storage platform that provides tremendous availability, flexibility, and performance--without requiring scores of administrators to manage. XIOtech's virtualized storage architecture--comprising the MAGNITUDE SAN hardware platform and REDI SAN management software--improves database availability with redundant hardware and exclusive software that allows administrators to add, remove, expand, and move storage in seconds while the system is online. "Oracle has designed Oracle9i to protect data and keep it available; XIOtech's virtualized storage architecture supports that kind of high availability in an easy-to-manage framework," said Richard Blaschke, executive vice president of marketing for XIOtech. "This demonstration at Oracle OpenWorld will show a tested solution that meets real-world challenges and can grow to meet the future needs of an enterprise." XIOtech's virtualized storage architecture is cluster ready and allows for immediate implementation of Oracle9i Real Application Clusters (RAC) for many-to-many failover. XIOtech's virtualization technology also enhances performance of Oracle applications by striping data across all available disks in the MAGNITUDE hardware platform. This method of storing data parallels Oracle's S.A.M.E. (stripe and mirror everything) philosophy: it eliminates hot spots, allows end users faster access to Oracle data, and simplifies storage management. The configuration at Oracle OpenWorld will include two MAGNITUDE hardware platforms connected to Solaris, Linux, and Windows servers running Oracle9i, RAC, and Computer Associates' BrightStor for backups to an ADIC tape library via Brocade SilkWorm switches. The Oracle9i RAC configuration is detailed in XIOtech's new Enterprise Solution Guide, "Configuring Oracle9i Real Application Clusters on XIOtech's MAGNITUDE." Enterprise Solutions have been qualified and tested by XIOtech's storage experts to ensure interoperability, seamless implementation, and maximum performance.
