LSI Logic Storage Systems Announces SANtricity 8.0

MILPITAS, CA -- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative storage solutions for the open enterprise, today announced the availability of SANtricity(TM) Storage Manager 8.0, a new level of management, replication, and scalability software for the MetaStor(R) E-Series family of storage systems. SANtricity 8.0 includes snapshot capability. Snapshot is a high speed replication tool for users whose data availability cannot be disrupted by routine management functions such as system backup and data copying. This optional feature creates near instantaneous, point-in-time images of selected volumes. Snapshot images can also accelerate the performance of other data intense activities such as testing, data mining, and off-line backup. "The security of data has never been more important, so the bar continues to be raised for back-up and recovery," said Flavio Santoni, vice president of sales and marketing at LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. "At the same time, back-up windows are closing. SANtricity 8.0 with snapshot gives storage administrators the ability to back up data almost instantly, which means that risk can be lowered substantially without disrupting operations." With SANshare(TM) Storage Partitioning software, another component of SANtricity 8.0, the number of servers that can be attached to each storage system has been expanded to 64, a critical resource consolidation feature. In addition, SANtricity's dynamic volume expansion now allows existing volumes to be increased in size online, also with no disruption to continuing operations. The new features of SANtricity 8.0 complement the replication and resource consolidation capabilities of the ContinuStor(TM) Director and TotalNET(TM) Advanced Server. The ContinuStor Director replicates data across heterogeneous storage systems, both local and remote, without disrupting ongoing business operations. TotalNET Advanced Server features a unique set of resource consolidation functions including file sharing among heterogeneous computers, centralized administration of shared storage, and consolidated authentication services using LDAP or legacy directories. "The demand for storing data has been growing at an extraordinary rate," said Randy Kerns, partner, the Evaluator Group. "Consolidation of servers and storage systems is providing an economic opportunity for customers in dealing with the growth. With SANtricity 8.0, LSI Logic Storage Systems has significantly expanded the replication and consolidation capabilities of the MetaStor E-Series with greater value to existing users." SANtricity 8.0 will be available for the MetaStor E4600 and E4400 in November of this year and will be available for the E2400 in the first quarter of 2002. The MetaStor family of storage systems scales a thousand fold, from 36 gigabytes to 39 terabytes of online data storage, and now features two gigabit Fibre Channel connectivity. In direct attach, SAN or NAS configurations, MetaStor systems support AIX, CIFS, HP-UX, http, IRIX, Linux, Mac(R)OS, NetWare, NFS, Solaris, Windows NT, and Windows 2000.
