Panasas’ ActiveStor storage has landed in the Visionaries section of Gartner’s MQ

Evaluation Based on Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision

Panasas today announced it has been positioned by Gartner in the Visionaries quadrant of the 2010 Magic Quadrant for Midrange and High-End NAS report.

“We believe Panasas’ position in the Visionaries quadrant by Gartner reflects our ability to provide scale-out NAS solutions to customers who need high-performance storage solutions that are easy to implement and manage,” said Randy Strahan, CEO of Panasas.  “Our customer growth in markets beyond traditional HPC environments has provided valuable insight into buyer’s wants and needs and will enable us to incorporate new high-performance capabilities into our products.”

The report, authored by Pushan Rinnen, Robert Passmore and Roger Cox at Gartner, evaluated 12 vendors that met the market definition and passed the inclusion/exclusion criteria for midrange and high-end NAS solutions. Panasas had to meet all the following criteria for its inclusion in the report:

·         Support a scale-up or scale-out architecture

·         Offer NFS and/or CIFS as standard client data and/or metadata access protocols

·         Provide primary file system storage, instead of storage that narrowly targets backup or archive data

·         Have an average selling price of $25,000 or more

·         Generate annual revenue of $5 million or more

·         Have global presence in two or more large geographic markets

  • Market recognition, market share and revenue data

  • Client interest, as measured by the level of client inquiry received on a vendor's products, and other client feedback

·         Use of unique, unusual or interesting technology
