Green House Data chooses Atrato storage system

Atrato V1000 to Provide Cloud Computing Infrastructure for 10,000 SF Data Center that is Powered Entirely Through Renewable Wind Energy: Atrato today announced that Green House Data has selected Atrato's flagship Velocity1000 (V1000) storage system for the company's outsourced data center services. The Atrato V1000 provides a unique solution that is ideal for cloud computing and virtualized environments as well as applications that require high input/output performance. The product features industry leading throughput in a power, cooling and space efficient package. Green House Data is a 10,000 sq.ft. data center that is powered entirely through renewable wind energy. This high-availability and secure facility is designed to operate at approximately 60% lower energy utilization per square foot than comparable data centers of the same size. This translates directly into cost savings for its customers while providing more computing power within the data center that draws less energy in a given footprint. "It can be hard to find the right balance between delivering the best technology to our customers and adhering to a higher sense of environmental responsibility," said Shawn Mills, president and founder, Green House Data Center. "Atrato has helped us to reconcile these two objectives. Our commitment to sustainable solutions led us to the Atrato V1000 for its unmatched performance density that saves us significant space, power and cooling costs. It is Atrato's high performance standards and total cost of ownership that has enabled us to launch our cloud computing initiative." Green House Data's current SAN puts significant power requirements on the data center and takes up an entire 42 units of rack of space. With the V1000, the company will be able to reduce its power requirements by 80% while achieving the same level of capacity and performance in only 6 rack units. This transition will save Green House Data 80% in power and cooling costs in the coming years. In addition, the V1000 opens doors to new revenue opportunities. Green House Data will be able to scale its infrastructure to support over 665 clients each utilizing 300 gigabytes of dedicated server space; previous configurations allowed them to support only 83 clients with the same 300 gigabytes of dedicated server space. "By choosing the V1000 system with its high-density form factor, Green House Data will not only improve the level of performance for customers but will also provide the necessary capacity and scalability to meet growing requirements" asserts Steve Visconti, president and CEO, Atrato. The Atrato V1000 allows Green House Data to support eight times as many customers than could be supported by the previous environment. This increase in capacity and performance has intensified Green House Data's ability to scale their customer base and increase revenues by millions of dollars per rack over the life of the product. "We came to Atrato with the need to fit as many servers on our SAN as possible. This allows us to grow as needed and deliver GIS mapping, SQL servers, and high performance analytics to our customers with data intensive applications. As a leader in corporate sustainability we also require a solution that not only delivers superior performance, and the capability to support data intensive applications, but also provides a green architecture. For us, the V1000 is that solution," said Shawn Mills. The V1000 is the definition of a true green solution. Atrato employs a high density design that consumes up to 80% less energy than standard industry solutions. The green aspects of the V1000 are built into the architecture. The patented power saving architecture allows for efficient and effective cooling, as well as the industry's highest density. Atrato does not hide behind thin provisioning and spinning down disks. In the past customers had to choose between power consumption levels and performance. The V1000 eliminates this compromise, allowing customers to enjoy high levels of access density, capacity, and security while remaining environmentally responsible. Green House Data provides outsourced data center services (either managed or co-located) for companies who choose not to build their own data centers. They bring high-touch, high-service solutions to the market in a cost-effective package. Green House Data is giving customers all the benefits of owning their own data center, including bandwidth, in a low-cost, green solution.
