Michael Marks Elected to Sun Microsystems Board of Directors

KKR Senior Advisor Brings Successful Track Record as Technology Executive to Board: Sun Microsystems today announced that Michael E. Marks has been elected to the Company's board of directors. A senior advisor with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. ("KKR"), one of the oldest and most experienced private equity firms, Marks was nominated by the firm to join Sun's board as part of the previously announced $700 million private placement transaction with KKR Private Equity Investors, L.P. the publicly traded fund of KKR. "Michael plays a key role in building out KKR's premier technology portfolio. The firm's investment in Sun marked a strong endorsement that our strategy is working, our management team is executing and our momentum is building," said Jonathan Schwartz, CEO and president of Sun Microsystems. Prior to joining KKR in 2006, Marks served as chief executive officer of Flextronics, a leading electronics manufacturing services provider of which he remains chairman of the board. He joined Flextronics as a director in 1991, and became its CEO in 1994. Marks currently serves on the boards of three KKR portfolio companies including Aricent (as Chairman of the Board), Avago Technologies Ltd. and Accellent. He is also a director of SanDisk Corporation and Schlumberger Limited. Marks holds both a bachelor of arts and master of arts from Oberlin College, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
