Fujitsu Introduces Next Generation 10-Gigabit Ethernet Solution

New XG2000 Switch Series Offers Industry Leading Low Latency, Power Efficiency, Affordability and Compact Design: Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions, today announced at Supercomputing 2006 the new XG2000 switch series. The new XG2000 switches are the third generation of the company's Layer 2, non-blocking, single chip 10Gb Ethernet solution. The Fujitsu XG series' ultra-low latency switching allows IT professionals to build powerful and efficient systems with a compact form factor and a flexible network interface. Powered by the Fujitsu revolutionary 20-port, 10Gb Ethernet Switch LSI, the switches offer industry leading low latency and are among the highest performance and most cost effective switches available in the market today. The XG2000 succeeds the popular Fujitsu XG1200 switch, which was originally released in North America in November 2005. "Today, we are seeing increased demand from IT professionals in high performance computing as well as enterprise and video server/storage markets for 10Gb Ethernet switches as a high performance technology to interconnect servers," said Vic Herring, senior director, new products group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "As the marketplace for IP-based storage networks continues to surge, the Fujitsu XG switches are the ideal products to address the demands to build high performance and cost-efficient networks for servers and storage systems." The new XG2000 family offers an impressively low port-to-port latency of only 300ns while still delivering 400Gbps non-blocking throughput performance. Featuring an extremely flexible design, the XG2000 series is available as either a 20-port XFP optical solution, or in 16 CX4 ports with an additional 4-ports of XFP optics, all in a compact 1U form factor. And with a variety of XFP interfaces (CX4, SR and LR) available, IT professionals are able to select the option that will help them create the best network architecture for their needs. Additional highlights of the new XG2000 series include an on-chip 3MB proprietary multi-stream buffer for full bandwidth performance, advanced security features, data reliability and low power consumption. These factors, combined with the switches' ultra-low latency and high performance capabilities, make them an ideal component for: high performance computing (HPC); video server and storage, especially high-definition (HD); enterprise server and storage applications; and emerging Internet SCSI (iSCSI) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) markets. Other key specifications: -- Cut through and store-and-forward routing -- Integrated on-chip SerDes leading to revolutionary latency (300ns) -- Hot plug redundant power supplies and cooling fans -- Link aggregation, IGMP snooping and port security -- Jumbo frame support up to 15KB The XG2000 switch will be available for purchase in December through select Fujitsu distributors, while the XG2000C switch will begin shipping in the first quarter of 2007.
