Sun Microsystems' Executive Women Chosen as Best of the Best

Sun Microsystems announced today that four female executives received the YWCA in Silicon Valley Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award. In recognition of their attainment of and excellence in executive level positions and top leadership, these four women in the areas of Marketing and Branding, Human Resources, Engineering and Customer Care Services were honored at an awards and fundraising dinner May 2 at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel. The women were chosen by former TWIN Honorees and prominent industry leaders because they are considered the best of the best. "This has been another impressive year for TWIN. We received a large number of nominations from top-level companies. I hold these women in high regard because they truly are the best of the best," said Dr. Keri Procunier McLain, Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA of Silicon Valley. The 22nd Annual TWIN Awards Program honors the following Sun Microsystems' executive women: As SVP, Brand Experience and Integrated Marketing, Ingrid Van Den Hoogen is responsible for driving Sun's branding and identity campaigns. During 2005, Ingrid was charged with leading the effort to renew and refocus Sun's image and identity. Leading a cross-company, virtual team of 300, she successfully evolved the brand to capture the next wave of computing--the Participation Age. Mary Cay Kosten, VP of Sun Services-Americas, oversees all Solution Center and Field service delivery activities in Canada, the US, and Latin America. In 2005, as VP of the Americas Customer Care Center, her accomplishments included reducing costs by 13% and lowering service delivery defects by 24%; teams under her purview also recovered $23M in billable Time & Materials revenue. She has a record of creating strong organizations through her broad, long-term vision and effective team-building skills, and expertly establishes collaborative relationships across diverse organizations As VP of HR for Sun's field organizations, Sharon Jordan owns the design and delivery of HR strategies for 17,000 employees in 50 countries worldwide, 40% of Sun's total headcount. Sharon has a deep understanding of the complexities of operating a global organization. In 2005, she oversaw the integration of several thousand new employees into the businesses she supports via two of the largest acquisitions in Sun's history, StorageTek and SeeBeyond. As a Sun VP, Linda Park leads the Software Lifecycle Engineering and Global Engineering organization. Almost all of Sun's engineering teams rely on Linda's organization for key services required to develop and release their products or for the talent, capability and infrastructure in the global engineering sites that she manages. Linda's overarching accomplishment in 2005 was changing the culture of both her organizations to one of urgency, operational excellence, and service, earning her the respect and appreciation of her stakeholders and enabling her team to deliver better results more efficiently than ever before. The TWIN awards program was established by Santa Clara Valley YWCA to pay tribute to women in industry. The participants represent a cross-section of companies in the Valley including technology, defense, communications, publishing, construction and healthcare, among others. Funds generated through the TWIN Awards dinner support the programs and services of the YWCA of Silicon Valley. Serving over 26,000 Santa Clara County residents, the YWCA provides programs in the areas of sexual assault intervention and prevention, counseling services, childcare, youth programs and family enrichment.
