NEC, Idera, Emulex & Texas Memory Systems Team to Set New Performance Record

Achieves Backup Speeds Greater Than 4.5 Terabytes Per Hour Using 'Off The Shelf' Technologies -- Idera, a leading provider of management and administration solutions for Microsoft SQL Server, announced today it has teamed with NEC Solutions (America), Inc., a premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in North America, Emulex Corporation, the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, and Texas Memory Systems, maker of the World's Fastest Storage, to set a new speed record for SQL Server 2005 backup and recovery. Using "off the shelf" technologies available today to any data center customer, the companies achieved backup speeds in excess of 4.5 terabytes per hour and restores speeds in excess of 2.3 terabytes per hour. These metrics reflect a more than 20% and 75% performance increase, respectively, over previously documented benchmarks for SQL Server backup and recovery. "With the rapid adoption of SQL Server 2005 in the enterprise, it is critical that organizations have a proven, powerful, backup and recovery solution like SQLsafe that scales to meet the needs of their mission-critical applications." said Rick Pleczko, president and CEO at Idera. "We are extremely pleased to partner with thought leaders like NEC, Emulex and Texas Memory Systems to demonstrate the capabilities of our technology." "We're extremely impressed with the results of this benchmark," said Woody Hutsell, Executive Vice President, Texas Memory Systems. "In fact, we strongly feel that we could have reached even greater speeds. Regardless, this benchmark provides us with further proof the RamSan is truly the world's fastest storage solution." "The superior results of this benchmark support NEC's ability to consistently deliver industry-leading high-performance computing solutions for SQL Server environments," said Larry Sheffield, executive vice president of Solutions Platform Group at NEC Solutions America. "These results help prove that the NEC Express5800/1320Xe Itanium 2-based server running Idera SQLsafe achieves top performance in SQL Server backup and recovery, exemplifying the performance capabilities these solutions bring to customers. Since this test was run on a 16-way system, our next goal will be to see even more speed using our 32-way system." "This ground-breaking new benchmark fully validates the superior performance and quality of Emulex 4Gb/s HBAs within SQL Server environments," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corporation. "Leveraging Emulex HBAs in this test also reinforces why the world's largest, mission-critical enterprises trust and rely upon Emulex for SAN connectivity." This performance record in SQL Server backup and recovery was set using the following: -- Intel Itanium 2 Processors -- NEC Express5800/1320Xe -- Emulex LightPulse 4Gb/s LP11000 HBAs -- Texas Memory Systems RamSan-400 -- Idera SQLsafe v3.0 -- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Windows 2003 Datacenter Edition
