Mercury Computer Systems Introduces Visage 3D

Mercury Computer Systems announced that it has architected its entire medical OEM product line to be 3D to the Core, a revolutionary new platform designed to empower the transformation of the diagnostic workflow to fully integrated, seamless 3D visualization. The Visage imaging and visualization software and solutions will be showcased at the 91st Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, Illinois November 27 through December 1. The diagnostic workflow is now confronting an explosion of data. Conventional two-dimensional diagnostic techniques and the PACS (picture archiving and communications systems) that were designed to support them are becoming obsolete. Mercury's entire Visage imaging product line for medical OEMs has been architected to bring 3D imaging to the core of the workflow. This innovative platform accelerates the processing of images and opens the way for new levels of productivity and efficiency. Mercury acquisition and reconstruction technologies deliver orders-of-magnitude reduction in reconstruction time over existing technologies, helping to ensure that the reconstruction process does not become the throughput bottleneck in the diagnostic workflow. The Visage CS Thin Client/Server solution expands 3D viewing capabilities to multiple users everywhere in the hospital and at remote sites, using existing PCs and laptops. This thin client/server approach is both cost- effective and empowering, because it plugs seamlessly into legacy hospital IT systems and eliminates reliance on a few, expensive 3D workstations. "As part of this re-architecting, we have renamed our products with a unified brand: Visage," said Marcelo Lima, Vice President of Commercial Imaging and Visualization, Mercury Computer Systems. "Visage represents one highly integrated family of technologies, products, and solutions across the diagnostic workflow, designed from the ground up to empower 3D to the core." The Mercury Visage product line enables a revolutionary 3D transformation throughout the medical imaging workflow: * Visage RT Image Reconstruction The world's first GPU-based reconstruction solution reduces reconstruction times by 40x to 60x, helping to ensure that the process does not become the throughput bottleneck in the diagnostic workflow. * Visage VR Volume Rendering Mercury's award-winning volume-rendering software components, combined with a flexible architecture, are easily embedded within OEM applications to support extremely large data-set volume rendering and advanced visualization. * Visage WS Workstation Turnkey workstation visualization software, combined with clinical applications with accelerated 3D rendering, optimize the diagnostic workflow. * Visage CS Thin Client/Server The scalable, multi-user thin client/server solution brings full 3D visualization to existing equipment throughout the enterprise. * Visage PACS With 1,000 installations worldwide, this web-based, high-performance, highly available PACS solution provides integrated image access, scalability from 1 to 500 users, and includes fully integrated PACS 2D and 3D workstation capability. Mercury will hold demonstrations of its Visage 3D to the Core imaging and visualization software and systems solutions, including the Visage WS Workstation, Visage CS Thin Client/Server, Visage VR Volume Rendering, Visage RT Image Reconstruction, and Visage PACs. Mercury will also demonstrate CT image reconstruction on the Cell Broadband Engine processor. The most powerful multicomputer on a chip, the Cell BE processor enables orders-of- magnitude faster processing for high-performance applications in medical imaging.
