Mercury Computer Systems Announces amira for Mac OS X
Mercury Computer Systems announced the availability of its TGS Series amira three-dimensional (3D) software for the Apple Mac OS X platform. amira 3.1.1 offers unparalleled speed and quality for creating interactive visualization from complex data sets. With more than 120 modules to process, probe, analyze, and visualize data, amira 3.1.1 includes advanced feature sets for 3D microscopy, biology, medical research and sciences. "The combination of amira’s powerful feature sets and visualization capability, with the front-end convenience of Apple’s graphics system, is a natural progression for our 3D analysis and visualization solutions," said Jean Bernard Cazeaux, vice president of Geosciences and 3DViz Technology, Imaging and Visualization Solutions, Mercury Computer Systems. "With amira 3.1.1, we can provide a new level of image understanding for the science and research communities." "Because of its unique combination of rock-solid stability, security and ease of use, Mac OS X has long been the platform of choice in the scientific and research fields," said Ron Okamoto, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We’re thrilled that Mercury has harnessed the innovation in Mac OS X to give its customers next-generation scientific 3D visualization and research tools." amira 3.1.1 follows the release of Open Inventor from Mercury Version 5.0 for the Mac OS X platform in September 2004, addressing customer and industry requirements for a high-performance, fast, reliable, and easy-to-use analysis and visualization solution. amira leverages the power and speed of the OpenGL and Open Inventor graphics libraries and 3D graphics accelerators. The combination of amira’s robust data analysis and visualization features with Apple’s user-friendly interface allows end users to leverage Apple's powerful operating system. Mercury demonstrated amira 3.1.1 on the Mac OS X platform in the Apple Health Village at MEDEC 2005, held March 15-18 in France. Mercury provides amira 3.1.1 with full documentation, sample data sets, and tutorials. For more information, contact Mercury or visit www.mc.com/tgs.
