Fujitsu Unveils Next Generation PRIMERGY Servers

Fujitsu Computer Systems today introduced four new PRIMERGY servers designed to deliver high performance and reliability. The new PRIMERGY tower servers (TX200 S2 / TX300 S2) and rack servers (RX200 S2 / RX300 S2) come with Intel Xeon dual processors featuring Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology for running both 32-bit and 64-bit applications and are cooled using an innovative cooling system called Cool-Safe. "These four new PRIMERGY S2 servers extend our 64-bit lineup and complement our existing Itanium -based systems," said Richard McCormack, vice president of product and solutions marketing for Fujitsu Computer Systems. "The new systems allow IT managers to migrate to 64-bit computing at their own pace while preserving their current investments." Fujitsu is one of the first vendors to offer tower and rack servers using the Intel® Xeon(TM) processor with Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T). Code-named "Nocona," the processor supports 32-bit and 64-bit applications and features Demand Based Switching with Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology to dynamically adjust the processor's power usage up to 31 percent, thereby reducing operating costs and heat issues. "Intel's thermal and power management features can reduce power usage, but they can also prevent the server running at maximum performance," said McCormack. "Therefore, it is imperative that the CPUs stay cool. We used aviation simulation to design our PRIMERGY S2 servers and redesigned the housing to increase airflow." Fujitsu dubbed this innovative airflow cooling system Cool-Safe. In part, the system features bigger fans and independent air tunnels to improve airflow and achieve better cooling characteristics. The efficient use of space also improves maintainability and serviceability. An array of integrated-redundancy and hot-plug features, such as hot-plug disks, hot-spare memory, hot-plug power supply, hot-plug PCI-X, hot-plug redundant fans, plus RAID 1 embedded and redundant dual LAN features, help to achieve continuous platform operation and high application reliability. The S2 servers come bundled with the PRIMERGY ServerView Suite including extensive configuration, setup and remote management functions. These functions will reduce troubleshooting as well as the cost of running business-critical IT at remote sites. It all adds up to highly flexible management and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). PRIMERGY TX S2 Tower Servers The PRIMERGY TX200 S2 and TX300 S2 tower servers are designed for ultimate flexibility and expandability in order to grow with business demands. This means plenty of headroom for expanding business activities so customers can see a larger return on their investment. The design has been honored with industry awards for its ease-of-use and manageability. A universal tower-to-rack conversion kit is also available to protect customers' investments.
