GridApp Systems(TM) Showcases the D2500 with PowerShare Technology

SAN FRANCISCO -- GridApp Systems, an innovator in database appliances and member of the Oracle Partner Network, introduced the D2500 database appliance at OracleWorld last night. The D2500's proprietary PowerShare technology enables organizations to consolidate multiple databases into a single, self-tuning virtual system. Powered by Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC)(TM), IBM's BladeCenter(TM), and GridApp's PowerShare technology & management software, the D2500 offers the power, stability and cost savings of a cluster without the associated complexity. "The D2500 represents a significant evolutionary milestone regarding the fundamental architecture of existing database structures," stated GridApp's President, Robert Gardos. "Imagine the power of a system that automatically regulates capacity across your data fabric based on need. The D2500 offers the operational, functional and financial benefits of a grid solution today -- with no complex migration required." The appliance's PowerShare technology utilizes sophisticated sets of algorithms that dynamically integrate user, system and historical usage data to automatically regulate system capacity across databases. System virtualization is another major benefit of the D2500. Capacity can be easily partitioned amongst different business units and added online. Unlike single, large-scale symmetric multi-processor (SMP) solutions, like Sun's servers, capacity can be added without any downtime. Importantly, component failures have no effect on active databases. "GridApp has taken the concepts driving grid computing and delivered them into a stable, high performing solution available today," said Gardos. "Industry-standard hardware, a highly intuitive administration module, and sophisticated auto-tuning technologies are the ingredients for a low cost, high performance system with rock-solid reliability. The D2500 appliance enables businesses to do more with less -- which is what everyone is looking for in these demanding, cost conscious times." "Nothing can be more frustrating than to knowingly spend scarce capital on systems with scalability limits as well as unused backup capacity to ensure high availability," stated Paul Cuccia, former CIO of Sotheby's Holdings and Ogilvy & Mather. "GridApp's D2500 offers the best of all worlds. It provides the flexibility, reliability and scalability of a cluster solution while reducing TCO by nearly 80%. For instance, if Marketing launches a successful campaign without involving IT, the D2500 automatically provides capacity to the database that needs it, when it needs it. Core processes -- and most importantly clients -- are insulated from the volatility associated with quickly changing system activities."
