Promicro Systems Introduces Intel-Based High Performance Server
POWAY, CA -- Promicro Systems today presented a "new level" of supercomputing power with the introduction of the PS-R1242 Dual Xeon 1U Server. Based on Intel's new E7500 chipset, the PS-R1242 will support dual Pentium® Xeon processors up to 2.2 GHz, the fastest available on the market. The PS-R1242 is an ideal solution for high performance computing applications in a wide variety of markets, including life sciences, entertainment/media, education and government. The PS-R1242 is a versatile platform designed with the flexibility to meet various application demands, with optional SCSI Ultra160 or ATA 100 RAID controllers. The system can be configured with either two IDE or three SCA hot-swap drive bays. To improve application processing and response times, the PS-R1242 supports up to 8GB of two-way interleaved double data rate (DDR) SDRAM. DDR operates twice as fast as conventional PC133 memory by performing two memory operations for every CPU clock cycle. The PS-R1242 also features Intel's breakthrough hyper-threading technology, an architecture state in which two processors can execute different tasks, or threads, simultaneously using shared hardware resources. This results in higher processing throughput and improved overall system performance. "We're excited about bringing the latest Intel technology to our customers.” said Jeff Haynes, President of Promicro Systems. "The PS-R1242 offers the greatest performance in the highest density making this system ideal for clusters." The PS-R1242 runs on a variety of advanced operating systems, including Linux, Windows, and UNIX. Additional features include 1 Gbit Ethernet port, 1 Fast Ethernet port incorporated on the motherboard with two available PCI 133/100 slots, and a 350/400W cold-swap power supply.
