Fujitsu Announces Availability of Its GR Series Universal Storage Architecture

TOKYO, JAPAN -- Fujitsu Limited today announced the global availability of its GR Series storage systems and state-of-the-art software for centralized administration, connectivity and replication of data. Introduced last year in Japan and other Asia Pacific markets, and with shipments already in excess of 3,000 systems, the GR Series will now be offered in North America and Europe as a key component of Fujitsu's information architecture solutions for companies with large, heterogeneous storage environments. "In the emerging broadband Internet era, round-the-clock, high-speed access to large volumes of information through an efficient storage architecture is becoming a critical factor for every large business organization," said Tatsushi Miyazawa, Senior Vice President, and Group President, Storage Systems Group, Fujitsu Limited. "With features such as our patented disk access automatic performance tuning, redundant component design and advanced remote management functions, our high-performance, highly reliable GR Series is the ideal storage solution, and we are pleased to bring this proven offering to customers in North America and Europe." The GR Series will be introduced in North America and Europe by Amdahl IT Services, a strategic member of the Fujitsu Group and a proven expert in the architecture, deployment and support of infrastructure solutions for the world's most demanding enterprises. The storage service offerings from Amdahl IT Services utilize Amdahl's Adaptive IntegrationTM methodology and include consulting practices for information management across all storage platforms, plus software solutions that encompass Fujitsu intellectual property and products from alliance partners, including Brocade, Fujitsu Softek, Microsoft, and VERITAS , all integrated into a comprehensive business information solution. Fujitsu's GR730 and GR740 storage systems feature high performance, industry-leading scalability, superior intelligence, assured information protection, and connectivity through industry-standard interfaces that challenge traditional boundaries between mainframes and open systems. These capabilities are not found in any other storage system. Available in both direct attach and Storage Area Network (SAN) configurations, a single GR740 series array can scale from a medium-sized departmental system up to 16 terabytes of storage in RAID 0+1, 1 and 5 (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) configurations. The GR740 storage system also features up to 16 connections to hosts running SolarisTM, Microsoft Windows 2000®, Microsoft Windows NTR, Linux, HP-UX, AIX® and IBM® OS/390® operating systems. Fujitsu's GR Series offers integrated data replication facilities through point-in-time replication (One Point Copy) and mirroring (Equivalent Copy) with the ability to suspend and resume, ensuring continuous access to data for critical business applications such as the OracleTM database and Microsoft® SQL Server. Sophisticated data replication and SAN management software (Fujitsu's SystemWalker/StorageMGRTM) makes it easy for users to manage local, remote and distant data replication needs for information delivery, information protection and information management. GR DataEXPRESS offers cross platform data exchange between System/390® and open systems, or between different open systems platforms (such as Windows and Solaris). According to International Data Corporation, the RAID storage market will grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 92% between 2001 and 2004. Similar growth is expected in UNIX®, Linux, Windows , and OS/390 storage markets (from 69% to 158% growth).
